For many, Césaria Évora was a superstar. At home in the African island state of Cape Verde, however, the singer was much more: she was a symbol of pride, a role model, help and hope.
The world-famous singer Cesária Évora is depicted and cinematographically portrayed in a new and very personal documentary. With previously unreleased footage and insights into the singer’s life, the film follows the struggles and success of the ‘Barefoot Diva’. Her voice brought her from poverty to fame, but her only dream was to be free.
LusOFest presents this film on 25 January at 19:30 at Filmklubb Offenbach before its cinema screening in Germany in April 2025.
